What Is EMDR? Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help people heal from trauma, distressing life experiences, and overwhelming emotions. EMDR is recognized by the American Psychological Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but it can also be helpful for anxiety, depression, grief, and other emotional challenges.

Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on processing unhealed memories and the emotional responses tied to them. The approach uses bilateral stimulation—typically through eye movements, tapping, or sounds—which helps the brain reprocess painful memories and reduce their emotional charge.

How Can EMDR Help You? Traumatic or distressing experiences can become “stuck” in the brain and body, continuing to affect how you feel, think, and respond to the world—even years later. EMDR helps release these experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional weight. Clients often report feeling relief, clarity, and a greater sense of control after just a few sessions.

EMDR may be helpful if you are struggling with:

  • Trauma or PTSD
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Grief and loss
  • Low self-esteem or negative self-beliefs
  • Phobias or performance anxiety
  • Childhood emotional wounds
  • Birth trauma or perinatal distress

I am trained in EMDR therapy and currently working toward full certification. This means I have completed the foundational EMDR training and continue to receive consultation and advanced training to deepen my expertise. I integrate EMDR into my practice when appropriate and tailor it to each client’s readiness and unique needs.

If you’re curious whether EMDR may be a good fit for your healing journey, I would be happy to explore that with you in session.
